A Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Diablo 4 is allegedly targeting a launch next month, according to prominent industry insider billbil-kun.
Known for a highly reliable track record with unannounced hardware and software news, billbil-kun reports that the Switch 2 port is near completion and scheduled to drop on either September 15 or September 18. The game will reportedly cost $69.99 / €69.99 / £62.99. Physical copies are expected to hit retail shelves, though they will reportedly contain a download code in a box rather than a physical cartridge or Game-Key Card.
While an official reveal has not been scheduled, billbil-kun suggested an announcement could take place later this month at Gamescom, where Xbox is hosting a major booth for its 25th anniversary. It remains unconfirmed whether the port will bundle the Lord of Hatred expansion or offer it as a standalone purchase.
Development History
-
January 2025: Initial rumors of a Switch 2 port surfaced via eXputer reporter eXtas1s, months ahead of Nintendo's hardware launch.
-
April 2025: Diablo franchise head Rod Fergusson publicly addressed the rumor, noting that the Switch 2's hardware capabilities were more than sufficient to handle Diablo 4.
Fergusson highlighted at the time that the main hurdle was optimizing a live-service title for a portable hybrid ecosystem:
"It’s nice the Switch 2 has the performance that can run a game like Diablo 4, so yeah, it’s something to look at for sure. I think the challenge is less around the hardware and just about how we… you know, live services on Switch have been a little bit challenging in the past. So I’m hopeful that as [Nintendo launch Switch 2] this June and as we look to the future, that becomes easier and easier, so it makes more sense to put a live service on that platform."
