Grand Theft Auto VI could arrive on PC in early 2027, significantly shortening the traditional wait time between Rockstar Games' console and PC launches.
According to a report by GamesBeat, four industry sources familiar with Rockstar's plans claim the developer intends to launch the PC version in the first quarter of 2027. With the game set to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, this timeline would leave console players with a relatively brief exclusivity window of just two to five months.
A short gap between console and PC releases would mark a major departure from Rockstar's historic release patterns. Grand Theft Auto V took over 18 months to make the jump to PC, while Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PC a year after its console debut. Earlier this year, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the immense demand for a PC release, noting that while the publisher rarely launches titles across all platforms simultaneously, it is well aware of the PC audience's appetite.
Bringing PC players into the fold quickly is essential for Rockstar's long-term online strategy. A substantial portion of GTA V’s ongoing revenue stems from GTA Online, and building a strong player base early will be key for its successor. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy recently hinted that GTA 6's multiplayer component is slated for 2027, anticipating a massive surge in stream viewership once online play goes live.
However, security threats and labor disputes loom over the upcoming launch. Rockstar recently issued a formal statement following threats from a leaker known as "CyberLeek," who claimed to possess a playable build of the game, prompting legal action and subpoenas from Rockstar. Simultaneously, the developer is facing an ongoing tribunal hearing with the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB) over the controversial firing of 31 Rockstar North employees last year.
Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed the Q1 2027 PC release window.
